Profile.
A simple tool to help Student Shepherds know the story, spiritual life, growth, gifting, and next step of every student entrusted to them.
WHY THIS EXISTS
You can't shepherd a student you don't really know.
Attendance tells you whether someone was in the room. It does not tell you what they are carrying, where they are growing, or what God may be developing in them.
The Student Profile gives a shepherd a simple way to pay attention intentionally.
It is not meant to become paperwork for paperwork's sake. It should help the leader pray better, ask better questions, recognize growth, and identify a meaningful next step.
Know the Student
Basic information, family context, school, interests, strengths, church experience, and what matters most to them right now.
Know Where They Are
Identify current spiritual rhythms, questions, prayer needs, areas of growth, and places where discipleship needs to become more intentional.
Know Their People
Notice the relationships shaping them: family, friends, spiritual influences, trusted church leaders, and mentors.
Notice What's Emerging
Look for compassion, leadership, prayer, teaching, worship, service, evangelism, spiritual gifting, and possible ministry calling.
Choose One Focus
Identify the most important discipleship priority instead of trying to address everything at once.
Build a Shepherd Plan
Decide how you will follow up, what you will pray, what opportunity may help them grow, and when pastoral involvement is needed.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
One student.
One priority.
One next step.
Pay attention to patterns instead of reacting to one conversation. Listen for questions, struggles, growth, gifting, and hunger.
A student may need help in several areas. Choose the most meaningful discipleship priority for this season.
Give the student something concrete: a conversation, spiritual practice, service opportunity, mentoring connection, or pastoral conversation.
Revisit the profile every 60-90 days. Celebrate growth and adjust the discipleship plan when needed.
HOW TO USE IT
Don't fill it out and forget it.
Build it naturally.
You do not need to interrogate a student to complete the profile. Learn their story through relationship, conversation, and time.
Pray through it.
Review the profile when you pray. Ask God to help you notice what you might otherwise overlook.
Revisit it.
Every 60-90 days, ask what has changed, what growth is becoming visible, and what should happen next.
The Student Profile is a discipleship tool, not a place to collect unnecessary sensitive information.
Protect student privacy. Keep completed profiles secure and accessible only to appropriate ministry leadership.
Serious safety, abuse, self-harm, family, or pastoral concerns should follow your church's established safeguarding, reporting, and pastoral-care procedures rather than simply being recorded on this form.
