Before we talk about power, we talk about surrender. God does not only want to forgive us. He wants to make us holy.
PREPARE
Don't reduce holiness to rules.
Sanctification is not God trying to make students miserable. It is God claiming the whole life for Himself.
The Church of God teaches sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
It also affirms holiness as God's standard of living for His people.
Keep both truths together: God sanctifies, and sanctified people are called to live holy lives.

Ask students: "When you hear the word holy, what comes to mind?"
Some may think perfect. Strict. Religious. Boring. Rules. Church clothes. Never having fun.
Biblical holiness is not pretending to be perfect. It is belonging completely to God.

God's will is sanctification.
Paul does not treat sanctification as an optional advanced level of Christianity.
In 1 Thessalonians 4:3 he says plainly: "For this is the will of God, your sanctification."
God saves us, and He calls the saved life to belong fully to Him.

Sanctification follows the new birth.
The Church of God distinguishes the new birth from sanctification.
We are justified, regenerated and born again through faith in Jesus Christ.
Sanctification is subsequent to the new birth: a further work of God's grace in which the believer is consecrated and set apart unto God.
That means we should not confuse salvation and sanctification, but neither should we separate them as though holiness does not matter.

God sanctifies.
Sanctification is not achieved by trying hard enough to make yourself spiritually impressive.
The Church of God Declaration of Faith says sanctification is through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word and by the Holy Ghost.
Grace is at work here.
We surrender. God sanctifies. His Word cleanses and shapes us. The Holy Spirit works in us.

Holiness changes how we live.
Holiness is not merely an invisible spiritual status with no effect on everyday decisions.
If we belong to God, that reality reaches our relationships, sexuality, speech, entertainment, habits, attitude, integrity and private life.
Romans 12 describes presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice. That is whole-life surrender.

Holiness is love before legalism.
Holiness can be taught badly.
It can become a list of outward rules used to measure who looks more spiritual.
But holiness begins with God's ownership of the heart.
We turn from sin because we belong to Him. We obey because we love Him. We live differently because grace is changing us.
The Church of God has explicitly reaffirmed that holiness should flow from compassion rather than legalism.

MAKE IT PRACTICAL
Who has the keys?
Sanctification means there are no rooms of our lives that remain intentionally locked away from God.
Ask students to imagine their life as a house. God is not asking to visit the living room once a week. He is Lord of the whole house.
Already surrendered.
Where are you willingly obeying God and allowing Him to shape your life?
Still wrestling.
Where do you know what God wants, but your desires are pulling in another direction?
Kept hidden.
Is there anything you already know you do not want God to challenge or change?

Make surrender concrete.
01 Why do you think people sometimes hear "holiness" and immediately think only about rules?

Practice surrender.
Don't let holiness remain a concept students understood for sixty minutes.
Open hands.
Each morning this week, physically open your hands and pray: "Jesus, everything I am belongs to You. Show me how to live holy today."
Listen for grace.
Are students understanding holiness as surrender to God, or are they slipping into shame, comparison and rule-keeping?
Ask about ownership.
"What do you think it means for your whole life to belong to God?"
LEADER GUARDRAIL
Don't flatten our doctrine.
Church of God teaching is more specific than simply saying, "Christians should try to live better."
KEEP THE ORDER CLEAR Sanctification is subsequent to the new birth.
Do not collapse regeneration, sanctification and Spirit baptism into one indistinguishable experience.
KEEP GRACE CENTRAL God sanctifies.
Sanctification is through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word and by the Holy Ghost.
KEEP HOLINESS PRACTICAL God's work produces a holy life.
Holiness is God's standard of living for His people, not merely a doctrinal term.
DON'T TURN THIS INTO LEGALISM Holiness grows from surrender and love.
Don't reduce holiness to appearance, denominational culture or a competition over outward rules.
